Former GM (GSK and Allergan), Award-Winning and Bestselling Author, and DEI Thought Leader Omar L. Harris announces the release of the “most crucial and compelling business book of the year”: “Be a J.E.D.I. Leader, Not a Boss” today.
Harris emphasizes, “J.E.D.I. Leaders are a positive force for good pushing back on the dark forces at work. These modern leaders are finding ways for businesses to be more using the principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (J.E.D.I.) in order to achieve the true purpose of corporations – increased value for employees, customers, communities, the environment and shareholders.”
By providing first-hand insights, new tools and solutions, Harris’ goal is to provide new hope and encourage business leaders to create a culture “where injustices are mitigated, inequities are eradicated, diversity is expanded, and inclusion is enhanced.”
As the only African-American GM in the world while working for global pharmaceutical giant Allergan in 2020, Harris believes strongly that leaders need to take action now to embrace J.E.D.I. Leadership and hire leadership teams that match diverse workforces.
With white males holding 85.8% of the Fortune 500 CEO positions in 2020 (yet only 35% of the population), Harris highlights to the need to “stop the guardians of the status quo.” In addition, white women only make up 6.8% of Fortune 500 CEOs, 3.4% are Latinx, 2.4% are East Asians or South Asians, and only 1% are African Americans, making the need for diversity in leadership even greater.
This new book includes timely topics such as the end of the boss, overcoming toxic egos, new tools (6As of J.E.D.I. Action) and case study examples of both individuals and companies. Readers will find extensive research of business thought leaders, authors, and reports including: Ibram X. Kendi (“How to Become an Antiracist”), Simon Sinek (“Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action”), When Women Thrive 2020 Global Report (Mercer, 2020), Kevin Johnson (“A message from Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson: Preparing for the next phase in the U.S.”), and Jasmyn Wimbish (“Adam Silver pens letter to employees deciding to strike in solidarity with NBA and WNBA players”, CBS Sports.)
Harris explains, read “Be a J.E.D.I. Leader, Not a Boss”:
If you believe business leaders should strive for more than profits, but don’t know how to get there.
If you are a leader looking to embrace the causes of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, and want a proven blueprint.
If you are joining a company and want your leaders to be aligned with cutting edge leadership.
If you are a DEI or HR professional looking for inspiration, reinforcement and new ideas.
If you are a business student or professor looking for DEI insights from someone who’s led global enterprise teams.
If you are a corporate leader who wants to learn how to go from shareholder to stakeholder capitalism using J.E.D.I. Leadership principles.
And in sync with this new book launch, Harris is gifting the eBook versions of his two most recent leadership books: “The Servant Leader’s Manifesto” (2020) and “Leader Board: The DNA of High-Performance Teams” for five days (June 25 – June 29, 2021).

The Three Phases of George Worthington’s Memoir: What’s Inside the Navy and How Disciplined Were the Sections of Training Conducted?
“When asked what I am most proud of, I stick out my chest, hold my head high and state proudly, I served in the United States Navy!”— Former US President John F. Kennedy.
A fascinating personal account of George R Worthington’s challenging military life was published, an autobiography book titled, Runnin’ with Frogs: A Navy Memoir. This book is an autobiographical sketch of a Naval career, highlighting challenging assignments during a booster era in America. Details of deployments and special events of international and national moments associated with operational and command tours were described. Actions, decisions, and personal learning impacts are directly discussed with in-depth descriptions of special training. The memoir has three phases: which include the early years, active duty in the U.S. Navy, and the rest of it. “The voice is open and honest about how he felt at the various stages of his life, even offering advice that includes keeping a good attitude and listening to everybody. Every chapter is a genuine insight into the Naval world that features rare explorations such as a fascinating look at the Marine Mammal Program where sea mammals had their special roles under the eye of the SEALS.”— Liz Konkel, Pacific Book Review.
“This is a book for anyone who enjoys stories of military life, memoirs from real-life servicemen and specifically Navy admirals, and memoirs in general. The stories told within this book are vast and detailed, and explore many facets of American history.”— Anthony Avina, Hollywood Book Reviews.

“Pain Behind Broken Vases” (ISBN: 978-1952521331) by Amilia Powers is the result of eight true stories of relational manipulation, control and abuse. Powers has combined stories from several women’s real-life experiences into the voice of one. Through a page-turning series of events, the main character, named after the author (Amilia), demonstrates how she manages to flee a dangerous and narcissistic relationship while working to re-create a life of her own.
In “Pain Behind Broken Vases,” Amilia, a widow who’s been grieving a love for several years, is ready to open her heart again. She’s drawn to a seemingly charming man who she feels will help her heart to heal. What she finds is completely the opposite. She’s entered into a world of deceit, pain and torment. While she tries to hold onto those first early days in the relationship when things were peaches and cream, she slowly realizes she has to escape the clutches of this abusive man with a hidden agenda.
Each chapter creates stunning tension and builds to a final conclusion that will leave the reader breathless, yet somehow wanting more. The book resembles a thriller and most will find it difficult to put down.
“Pain Behind Broken Vases” was mostly written to inspire women who are in abusive relationships or who have experienced domestic violence and/or emotional abuse to get out while they still can. It showcases how belief in oneself and personal motivation and strength can save a life – their own.
“There are no regrets necessary in life, only opportunities to learn from mistakes that are the result of wrong choices,” Powers says. “This philosophy is the foundation of all my messages and I hope helps people to make better choices.”
Amilia is the author and co-author of several other books – all written to help people learn and heal. She’s the author of a blog series, “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again,” and mentors women in individual and group settings and on forums to help them through life’s often difficult transitions.
She supports and encourages her clients to rebuild their lives, one piece at a time while gaining strength, love and a greater sense of self so they can live a happier and healthier life. Her guided and personalized meditations are tools for the soul. Amilia is an active member of Toastmasters International, has two children and five grandchildren and lives in Rhode Island with her husband.

Recent release “ERA” from Page Publishing author Roger Rehberg, explores that as humanity began to expand into the stars, a new external threat emerged from deep space unlike anything it had encountered before.
Roger Rehberg, a science fiction fan and follower since he was a child, has completed his new book “ERA”: an intriguing work that emerged due to the author’s fascination of creating his own planets, races, and otherworldly scenarios that he underpinned with humanities own failings and strengths both internally and externally.
Rehberg writes, “The intense brightness of the sun that could sometimes be so blinding on the Earth and the inner planets was dimmed on the tiny but hostile chunk of rock known as Pluto. It was far separated from any of its solar neighbors, planets or otherwise, except for a small science post that orbited far above its cold and barren surface. For the extremely isolated and brave team, this was their place of work, and for now, at least, it was their home with Earth only being in their most treasured dreams.”
Published by Page Publishing, Roger Rehberg’s gripping story demonstrates how an Earth fleet mounted to face the imposing alien threat just beyond the fringes of the planet Saturn, the human forces suddenly vanished and are unexpectedly transported into the future.
Returning to Earth, the fleet finds their home conquered and beaten, and the invaders have long gone. It is now their responsibility to not only rebuild the world but also remove tyrants from power and ultimately prepare for the inevitable return of the alien race. All will be revealed, and Earth’s ultimate role in the galactic environment will be forever changed.
Readers who wish to experience this riveting book can purchase “ERA” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

While maybe not as prolific as Taylor Swift, Columbia, South Carolina-based writer Rush Leaming took advantage of all his downtime during the 2020 quarantine and set to work on his latest novel “Dead Tree Tales”, a crime thriller set in Charleston, SC.
And he wrote the entire 95,000-word book on his iPhone!
“Sounds crazy, but I’m the worst typist in the world,” Leaming explained. “So, instead I use the Google Docs app and basically text my novels out. It’s faster for me and the small phone screen actually helps to intensify my focus. Also, any ideas that strike me throughout the day or night, I’ve always got my manuscript with me.”
The novel comes out officially June 8th on Ingram, Amazon, and other outlets, but it is already getting 5-star advance reviews, such as this excerpt from Reader’s Favorite:
“Dead Tree Tales by Rush Leaming is about a lot more than a dead tree. It’s a mystery. It’s a crime story. It’s a thriller. It’s a powerful comment on today’s society and politics… a novel that is fast-paced, full of action and intrigue.”
“I had fun writing it and I’m excited it’s soon coming out so people can read it,” Leaming adds. “Covid has been such a tragic time for so many, but some have been able to find silver linings in all the storms. This book was one of mine.”
Experienced foster parent Sarah Salisott is releasing a book, Welcome to the Foster Lane.
Sarah Salisott is an experienced foster parent and a PCI Certified Parent Coach®. Known as “the coach who’s been there,” Sarah has an abundance of personal experience, working as a licensed level 4 foster parent who specializes in parenting teenage girls with mental health struggles. She partners with Child Protection Services to bring parenting services to parents whose children are in out-of-home care. Her book, Welcome to the Foster Lane, contains invaluable advice and parenting help based on her own extensive experience.
“Fostering is hard; it’s easier as a team,” says Sarah. “The Foster Lane helps support biological parents by offering coaching aimed at removing barriers to reunification as well as foster parents by offering coaching aimed at creating more connecting moments for however long the child lives in their home.”
Sarah’s approach is cooperative and nonjudgmental. She runs her coaching programs via Zoom and in person, working collaboratively with parents and building on their strengths while offering a future-focused, action-oriented approach to solving difficulties and challenges. As Sarah began to see positive results from her approach to parenting, she took the advice of her child’s social worker and completed a graduate-level program with the Parent Coach Institute (PCI). This led to her establishing her business as a parent coach.
Welcome to the Foster Lane represents the culmination of her own experience as a foster parent, along with knowledge gathered from other parenting experts.
“The intention of the book is to raise awareness and normalize parenting struggles and successes while raising a child in out of home care,” says Sarah. “Regardless of their treatment, children maintain a strong connection to their biological parents in their minds and hearts; the faster a foster parent is able to honor the child’s family of origin, the faster they will be able to develop a meaningful connection with that child; fostering has many challenging aspects and parents need support.”
When she first started fostering, Sarah found an almost complete lack of information or support available and had to do her own research, motivating her to write a blog based on her experiences, and then to launch a book.
The ebook will be released on May 21, and the paperback on June 25.
This is one book everyone needs to read because, the information given here is crucial for total liberation from this killer disease. Take it this way; your life depends on it, literally.
I’ll ask these questions to help you understand the significance of this material:
If you saw your neighbor’s house on fire, would you not alert them, to ensure they get out to safety?
If your friend is engaged in an activity that is detrimental to their wellbeing, would you not tell them, or advise them to change?
If your child is about to make a horrible mistake that would jeopardize their life and future, would you not do all in your power to stop them and correct their poor judgement?
If you answer “yes” to any or to all these questions, then you are right. Because its our duty to enlighten others about eminent danger they are exposed, but oblivious to. And that’s what this book aims to do. Written solely to bring to our attention; a very deadly virus that has been ravaging Humanity unimpeded, for generations. Has wreaked the lives of individuals, as well as nations. A disease so long ignored or relegated to a lower priority by the relevant body mandated to inform the public, to the detriment of Humanity. I was once a victim of it too (have since recovered, only by Divine grace) and when i realized its dangers, I was flabbergasted that nobody is talking about it. Hence, I write to sound the alarm to warn others. For it is my Human obligation to do so.

Vail, Colorado. Available this Spring, On the Roof of the Rocky Mountains offers an intimate view of Vail’s treasured botanic garden, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. Written by landscape architect and Colorado-based author Sarah Chase Shaw, the book examines the extraordinary effort put forth by a group of community-minded citizens to develop a world-renowned botanic garden devoted to high alpine plants. Named in honor of former First Lady Betty Ford, an avid gardener and part-time resident of Vail, the Gardens showcases over 3,000 alpine species in a collection of individual gardens devoted to unique alpine environments around the globe.
Compelling text, accompanied by masterful plant portraits, take readers on an inside tour of the Gardens, one of the most diverse living alpine plant collections in North America. Shaw’s new book is a tribute to alpine plants’ world and the vital work the Gardens is doing to promote research and conservation of global alpine environments in one of America’s premier resort destinations.
Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is more than a beautiful garden: it is a laboratory of testing, studying, and showcasing a rich palette of native and exotic perennials, many of which had never been grown above 6,000 feet anywhere in America. — Panayoti Kalaidis, Senior Curator and Director of Outreach for Denver Botanic Gardens.
On the Roof of the Rocky Mountains illuminates the Gardens as both a leader in alpine plant conservation as well as a destination in one of America’s premier resorts. Its expertly curated and stunningly beautiful botanic displays are located within the Town of Vail’s Ford Park, directly across from Vail Mountain, and a short distance from the center of Vail Village.
Captivating photography and descriptive writing reveal the beauty and infinite grandeur of the land above the trees, a landscape that few visit and even fewer inhabit. An exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Gardens immerses readers in a seasonal look at the unusual alpine specimens and horticultural favorites interspersed throughout the Gardens’ collections, from the frigid and barren peaks of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains to the more temperate alpine environments of South Africa, the Himalayas, the Caucasus Mountains, and beyond.
On the Roof of the Rocky Mountains establishes the Gardens as a must-see destination for visitors, a place known for its beautiful gardens, world-renowned plant collections, and educational outreach. All Gardens’ photography was captured by Vail-based photographers Todd Winslow Pierce and Dominique Taylor. Drone photography was taken by outdoor adventure photographer Brandon Huttenlocher. Global alpine imagery comes from Minden Pictures, recognized worldwide as the foremost provider of wildlife and nature stock photography.
“While the focus of the book is Betty Ford Alpine Gardens,” says Shaw, “it is also a celebration of the global reach of the alpine ecosystem and the unique climate that supports and sustains the hardy plants and animals that inhabit it from pole to pole.”
Organized into five chapters, the book opens with “Sowing Seeds,” a look back at the community’s effort to create a public garden in an emerging year-round destination resort. Stunning images of global alpine landscapes populate the pages of chapter two, “Understanding the Alpine World,” illustrating the unusual ways in which weather and climate define survival for plants, animals, and humans in the land above the trees. The Gardens’ magnificent botanic displays are revealed in “Four Seasons in the Gardens.” Its distinguished collections of alpine plants worldwide come into focus in “Guardians of the Alpine.” Finally, the Gardens’ role as a leader in alpine plant conservation are described in “Vigilance and Vision.”
Sarah Chase Shaw is the author of two residential landscape architecture books and co-author of Living Beneath the Colorado Peaks: The Story of Knapp Ranch. Her work, which has appeared in multiple national and regional publications, covers design and lifestyle issues in the American West, including landscape architecture, architecture, community planning, environmental design, land use, real estate, gardens, people, families, and history.
