Poets&Quants Names Best & Brightest MBAs For 2021

Premier business school news site releases annual feature celebrating graduating business students for achievement and influence

Poets&Quants, the leading news source for graduate business education, has released its 7th annual “Best & Brightest MBAs” feature, which honors 100 of the most accomplished full-time MBAs from the Class of 2021.

“When you think of Best & Brightest, they are the leaders and innovators,” writes Jeff Schmitt, Poets&Quants’ senior writer, who launched the series in 2015, “Their instinct is to serve and solve. That’s what was needed amid the pandemic. There was a lot of uncertainty and disappointment for MBA students. The Best & Brightest stepped up. They worked with faculty and administrators to give their peers the best possible experience. It would’ve been easy for MBAs to splinter off into their own worlds. The Best & Brightest were the ones who never left a classmate behind.”

This year’s class includes Joshua Young Yang, a Stanford MBA and Johns Hopkins Ph.D. candidate who has already raised $5 million dollars for his biotech startup. At Accenture, Shoshana Seidenfeld was part of a four-person team that raised $650 million dollars for President Obama’s Partnership for Refugees initiative. Before joining the University of Chicago, Theodore Lim worked as a project manager in real estate. His credits include overseeing building projects on Microsoft’s Redmond campus, such as designing treehouse conference rooms and the largest pedestrian bridge in the Puget Sound region.

On campus, the Class of 2021 was equally impressive. At Georgetown, Leena Jube developed a course on innovation with one of her professors. At MIT, Riana Shah and Olga Timirgalieva co-founded the First-Generation, Low-Income (FLI) Club to address the needs of students sometimes overlooked in business school. Justin Speller even authored a case study, one that will be the subject of Indiana University’s next MBA diversity case competition.

To compile this year’s Best & Brightest MBAs, Poets&Quants reached out to 73 top graduate business schools to nominate their best candidates for the honor. Responses were judged by P&Q editorial according to three criteria: extracurricular activities, academic and professional achievements, and overall insightfulness. Ultimately, P&Q received 239 nominations from 68 programs, including nearly every MBA program ranked among the world’s best. The 2021 list includes representatives from the most prestigious programs, including Stanford, Wharton, MIT, INSEAD, Northwestern, and the University of Chicago. By gender, Best & Brightest women outnumber men by a 60-to-40 margin, with 38 students hailing from outside the United States. This year, Deloitte hired the largest number of Best & Brightest MBAs with seven, followed by McKinsey with six.

As part of this feature, each MBA receives an in-depth profile, which covers items like their proudest achievement and favorite classmate. It also includes a testimonial from an administrator or faculty member. Over the coming months, Best & Brightest will also spotlight the best student responses related to their favorite faculty members, biggest school myths, and most interesting school traditions.

The “Best & Brightest MBAs” is the second of a four-part series recognizing the world’s top business students. In April, Poets&Quants For Undergrads unveiled its Best & Brightest Business Majors for 2021. This summer, Poets&Quants will recognize its “Best & Brightest Executive MBAs” and “Best & Brightest Online MBAs.” In the fall, P&Q will continue its series on the top incoming full-time MBA students at over 40 top business schools.

Get Ready for the Ride of Your Life, as The ABCs of HBCUs Takes Readers on a Front-Row, All-Inclusive Tour of Historically Black Colleges & Universities

From FAMU to Howard, the Divine Nine to Battle of the Bands, children learn about the love, lifestyles, and legacies that built these incredible institutions.

New children’s book celebrates Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Kamala Harris, Stacey Abrams, Toni Morrison, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. all attended Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs.) Unfortunately, many children are unaware of these institutions. “The ABCs of HBCUs,” written by Claudia Walker and published by HBCU Prep School, is raising awareness about Black Colleges.

From A to Z, “The ABCs of HBCUs” gives readers a front-row, all-inclusive tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. It is the first children’s book to introduce young readers to college campuses like Howard University, Spelman College, Lincoln University and Meharry Medical College.

Readers also learn about time-honored traditions such as the Battle of the Bands, homecoming, and Black fraternities and sororities.

In a recent interview, Walker said, “As a teacher, I know that some students only learn about HBCUs during their senior year of high school, if at all. I want to change that, and ensure that students are exposed to these historical institutions as early as possible.”

Award-winning brand-designer Jessica E. Boyd provided the illustrations for the book. Boyd, a double HBCU alumna, captured and translated the essence of the Black college experience into a language that speaks to young children.

This is a debut book release for Walker and Boyd.

About the Author
Claudia Walker is an Oakland based author, speaker, and teacher whose work has been featured in the New York Times, Essence, and Vogue. As a proud second-generation HBCU graduate, her debut book, The ABCs of HBCUs”, is inspired by her undergraduate experiences at Spelman College.

Deeply committed to showcasing and celebrating stories that mainstream publications tend to overlook, Claudia launched HBCU Prep School, a publishing company that centers on Black voices and Black joy in children’s books.

Despite Past Challenges and Current Ones, University Presses Onward with Growth in Mind

Morrison University rises to succeed

Morrison University, a university in Reno, Nevada; with a history dating back 119 years, proves that despite past financial challenges and current ones due to COVID-19, that success is still possible for visionaries and leaders.

In 2014, Morrison was slated to be closed due to financial challenges created when federal government officials passed legislative reforms on education. However, when investors saw that Morrison was on the brink of closing down permanently, Robert Hinkley and his group looked to not only save a university but adapt and grow it in an ever-changing job market. That deal was made official in January 2015, giving then-current students a chance to complete their studies and reach their professional goals, while giving prospective students a unique choice than the traditional state-run fare.

As time went on, Morrison’s direction changed towards more business-oriented programs while teaching out less-profitable programs such as Liberal Studies and Performing Arts. New leaders were brought on to bring a fresh perspective that believed in the new vision and direction of the university. Six years later, the school celebrates overcoming obstacles of 2015 while embracing the challenges created in the past year.

“When I came on board in late 2015, the school was fighting to survive even though there was a fresh cash infusion,” said Dean of Students, Allan Smith. “It was leadership’s openness to new ideas that helped us get through the situation and thrive. Today we are dealing with a pandemic that has caused havoc to the everyday lives of everyone in the world, but we always find ways to adapt and find opportunities. We had already integrated the use of technology into our curriculum, so our students didn’t have to adapt to using it; they only had to adapt to not seeing their classmates and teachers in person. What has helped them has been our caring faculty and staff; they always let our students know we are there for them, even if we don’t get to see them in person daily.”
Allan Smith also reflected on the plans for Morrison University’s expansion. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, the school’s enrollment is up a modest 6% over the 2019-2020 school year. Smith further elaborated that they would make a larger push for overseas partners in Southeast Asia and Latin America to help bring an American-styled education to markets of students looking for a competitive edge in local job markets. Smith mentioned he is scheduled to travel to Costa Rica, Peru, and Asia in 2021/22 and meet with prospective partnering universities.

About Morrison University – Morrison University is a private university located in the State of Nevada founded in 1902. Their programs feature degrees in business subjects from Associate-level all the way to Doctoral.

A Team of Private Investigators Track Down a Charismatic Conman on a Calculated Crime Spree in ‘Where the Devil Lives’

In Aletta Henry’s new mystery, G.B. Crane and Associates go undercover to apprehend a fake holy man targeting elderly women and discover someone more sinister than a simple swindler

Mystery author Aletta Henry has released the fifth installation in her collection of suspenseful and entertaining novels which follow the exhilarating work of Philadelphia-based private investigation firm, G.B. Crane and Associates. In “Where the Devil Lives,” the firm’s eccentric namesake, Gilbert Bishop Crane, discovers that his mother has fallen victim to a scam run by a man posing as a swami named Naresh.

Failing to convince her of Naresh’s true nature, Gilbert looks to the rest of the crew—Grace, Victor, Sam and Tom—to jump into action and interrupt the conman’s crooked dealings. Donning a gray wig and elaborate makeup, Grace disguises herself as a wealthy elderly woman to attract the attention of the swami while Sam acts as her chauffer and Victor secures a position at the spa where they have determined the future targets are preyed on.

Together, the crew uncovers the names of the other victims as well as an entire network of devious associates involved in Naresh’s scheme. However, they underestimate how far the charlatan is willing to go to protect his profits and who he deems disposable in his quest for riches.

True to Henry’s signature style, “Where the Devil Lives” is a thrilling yet fun mystery, designed to entertain readers and keep them guessing until the last page. Weaving together suspense, dark humor and clever banter, the book provides an exciting literary escape with a feel-good ending.

ONLINE EDUCATION SUCCESS REVIEW: HUGE RETURN ON INVESTMENT ACHIEVED BY ONLINE BUSINESSES

Return on investment (ROI) is a ratio between the cost of investment and net income. It is a measure of how much investment cost is recouped by profit. A high ROI means that the gains made by an investment compare well to the cost of procuring the investment. ROI is often used as a performance measure. It is a way to evaluate the efficiency of an investment, or it can be used as a method to compare the performance of different investments.

Investments that pull in higher profits have higher return rates. The more profitable a business is, the likelier it will recoup the cost of its investments. There are many ways how profit can be increased. Some may answer that profit margins can be increased, meaning getting more profit with every sale. But the higher profit margins are, the pricier the commodity will be. But as Economics 101 explains, high prices deter demand. Low demand lowers sales and low sales lowers income and ultimately, lowers profit.

So instead, most businesses aim for increasing sales figures. The more items sold, or the more services rendered, the higher the income generated. Having higher income yields higher profits. Higher profits hasten the return of investment.

So the next question is, how to increase sales? For one, businesses can lower prices which may attract demand – that is if businesses are willing to further defer recouping of their investments. However, a better strategy could be to employ marketing.

Marketing is the promotion of a business. It aims to create interest, attract customers, and increase sales. Interestingly, marketing itself is a business investment. Having it adds to the overall cost of business operations. But if marketing is devised and executed well, it will yield returns that will cover all business investments.

When it comes to marketing services, one digital solutions provider is chiefly known for its high ROI offerings and that is Online Education Success.

Online Education Success offers a range of digital marketing services. The variety serves to address the different marketing needs of online businesses today.

An example of its digital marketing services is its Email Marketing Package. Email provides many advantages over other types of digital marketing. For one, it connects directly to its target market. By being able to communicate directly to individual customers, email marketing proves the least costly and most customizable among full marketing strategies.

When it comes to market reach, Online Education Success’s Social Media Advertising Package is hard to beat. By capitalizing on the popularity of social media and its organic networking nature, Social Media Advertising Package allows online businesses to further their reach into the market, increase brand awareness, double website visits, and expand their market share.

When it comes to improving a website’s searchability, Online Education Success’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) package is a must-have for all website owners. The service applies the best SEO strategies in a very affordable package. The service includes a custom SEO strategy, keyword analysis, link building, On and Off-page SEO treatments. With the SEO package, a website will enjoy first-page search engine ranking in no time at all.

After promoting a business through email and social media, the next step for any business would be to employ a method to finally seal the deal with the customer. This means making the final pitch to persuade the customer to buy the offered goods or services. The most powerful means to do so is with a video sales letter (VSL) and Online Education Success has just the service to help online businesses conceptualize, script-write, and even produce their very own VSL.

The resulting video sales letter can be used in conjunction with other marketing services and increase their persuasiveness. It can be used as content for a social media campaign. It can also be embedded in the marketing email to provide a multi-media reading experience. Last but not least, it can be used as web page content to improve SEO and make a final bid to secure a sale.

All of these methods are aimed at improving sales, increasing revenue, and making businesses more profitable. And when a business is profitable, only then will huge returns on investments are achieved.

Kids Read Now is mailing books to students’ homes – Beating learning loss in Kentucky

Kids Read Now is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the singular mission to eliminate learning loss for all K-3 students

Kids Read Now has partnered with school districts across Kentucky, including Carroll County Schools, Montgomery County Schools, Berea Independent, and Elizabethtown Independent Schools, to mail books directly to their students’ homes over the summer. The number of students in the Kids Read Now program continues to grow with almost 400,000 books being mailed to students in 2020 alone!

Most students will experience reading skill loss over a typical summer break from school. Creating home libraries is key to preventing a steep learning slide due to summer break and recent extended school closures. “Students who participate in the KRN in-home reading program see gains up to 2.5 months of learning over the summer instead of succumbing to the summer slide,” said Leib Lurie, CEO of Kids Read Now.

“Kids Read Now is a great program to help children receive free books. Many of these children in our school population have few or no books within the household,” said Keisha J., Classroom Teacher, Carroll County Schools.

“It [KRN summer reading program] promotes reading!” said Stacie S., Library Media Specialist, Elizabethtown Independent Schools.

The Kids Read Now K-3 summer reading program mails eight new books to students and includes exciting multicultural, fiction, and nonfiction titles loved by children. Mailing books builds ongoing enthusiasm but does not require in-home technology. Each book includes guided discussion questions to help improve reading skills and increase family engagement. The ninth book of beautifully illustrated creative writing prompts concludes the program so children can write their own stories. Best of all, kids keep their new books!

Kids Read Now is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the singular mission to eliminate learning loss for all K-3 students.

‘The Be Books’ Series Offering Social Emotional Learning for Children During Pandemic

Each book from Lauren Grabois Fischer inspires children to be accepting, positive, grateful, and respectful

Author Lauren Grabois Fischer has created a series of children’s books called ‘The Be Books’, which are designed to entertain while also teaching acceptance, positivity, gratefulness, and respect through social-emotional learning. During these difficult times, parents and children need all the empowerment they can get, and Lauren is standing with others to make a difference.

The seven-book series includes “Be Who You Were Meant To Be”, “You Are A Superhero”, “Every So Often A Zebra Has Spots”, “Love Grows Love”, “The Light Within Me”, “Life”, and “The Zoo’s Big News”. The eighth book, “The ABCs To A Mindful Life”, is expected to debut in Spring 2021. Lauren’s books are written to promote social-emotional learning, a process by which children can acquire and apply the skills needed to understand and manage their emotions.

Each book is available in hardcover and paperback formats and includes additional pages in the back with activities and inspiration and discussion pages for further discussing the concepts of acceptance, kindness, and love.

According to Lauren, “One thing that I absolutely love is that my books are used frequently in the classroom and school environment.
