Shooter Detection Systems to Showcase Gunshot Detection Solutions to the ASIS Community in Orlando at GSX

Enterprise Software Enhancements and Guardian Wireless will be on exhibit at the Global Security Exchange September 27-29, 2021

Shooter Detection Systems (SDS), an Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM) company, will return to the Global Security Exchange (GSX) show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando September 27-29, 2021. SDS will feature indoor gunshot detection solutions at the show, introduce attendees to new developments in enterprise-level software enhancements, and highlight Guardian Wireless, the Patent Pending wireless/battery-powered gunshot detection sensor and the latest innovation to join the Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection line of products.

Enterprise Software Enhancements
Since its introduction to the commercial market in 2014, the Guardian System has been in use by Fortune 500 companies, sports stadiums, U.S. Federal Government agencies, Department of Defense bases, and other public and private institutions. Over the past year, SDS Engineers have introduced new developments in the backend software of the Guardian System that meet growing demand in the enterprise market. The added features include IPv6, TLS for secure communications, High Availability support, SQL database backend, auditing, Active Directory, and virtualization capabilities.

“These features were developed to create an enterprise customer solution complete with the elements IT teams demand,” said Rich Onofrio, Managing Director for SDS. “These latest enhancements, combined with our ability to offer customers a pure on-premise solution without the need for external access – plus our association with Alarm.com – all keep SDS at the forefront of innovation in our field and the undisputed leader in enterprise and FedGov markets.”

Guardian Wireless
This smart sensor for gunshots offers customers the flexibility to choose a wireless solution that utilizes SDS’ proven technology for rapid detection and response to shooting incidents in buildings. “When it comes to wireless IoT devices in the life safety space, customers demand secure communications and reliability,” said Dave McLaren, SDS Vice President of Sales. “Guardian Wireless meets that demand and is a great alternative to PoE when the facility or the configuration demands a completely wireless solution.”

Guardian Wireless is a dual-mode wireless gunshot sensor option that alerts building occupants and law enforcement to active shooter incidents. Guardian Wireless sensors mirror the proven shot detection technology in the company’s flagship Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection Power over Ethernet (PoE) sensors, with the addition of a primary lithium battery pack. Guardian Wireless utilizes a secure long-range wireless technology in a fully supervised system that optimizes uptime while the sensors scan the environment for gunshots and filter out false alerts. Guardian Wireless is available alongside the Guardian PoE solution and can be utilized together in a mixed deployment to meet unique facility needs.

Attendees are invited to visit SDS at Booth #1013 during the show. To schedule a dedicated appointment with a gunshot detection specialist at the show contact sales@shooterdetectionsystems.com.

How well is your Internet Security Suite protecting you?

AV-Comparatives releases Internet Security Real-World Protection Test Report for H1 2021

Independent security-software evaluation lab AV-Comparatives has just released the report of its Consumer Real-World Protection Test for February-May 2021.

Partially funded by the Republic of Austria, this test was conducted by AV-Comparatives supported by the University of Innsbruck’s Faculty of Computer Science.

Link –> Find the full report here!

The consumer security products tested in the Real-World Protection Test were:

Avast Free Antivirus
AVG Free Antivirus
Avira Antivirus Pro
Bitdefender Internet Security
ESET Internet Security
G Data Total Security
K7 Total Security
Kaspersky Internet Security
McAfee Total Protection
NortonLifeLock Norton 360
Panda Free Antivirus
Total AV Total Security
Total Defense Essential Antivirus
Trend Micro Internet Security
VIPRE Advanced Security

The Real-World Protection Test conducted by AV-Comparatives simulated real-world conditions as experienced every day by users. The company’s own crawling system was used to find out malicious sites and extract malicious URLs to be used in the test. The tests were performed using a fully patched Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit system.

The test accurately determined if each malware sample used was able to make any changes to the test system.

AV-Comparatives co-founder Peter Stelzhammer commented, “In this kind of testing, it is very important to use sufficient test cases (samples). If only a small sample set is used in comparative tests, the results may not accurately indicate the protective capabilities of the tested products. AV-Comparatives use more test cases per product and month than any other testing lab running similar tests. Consequently, our tests reach a very high level of statistical significance”.

To group the results and identify the level of similarity between the clusters, statistical methods like hierarchical cluster analysis were utilized. To ensure that security programs do not plague users with false alarms, AV-Comparatives put all the products through a false-positive test.

Programs with high levels of false alarms had their award levels reduced. Many of the tested products performed well, with only one product reaching the highest award level. However, AV-Comparatives states that the standards for this test are very high, and even products with the Standard Award have achieved a creditable protection level.

Like all AV-Comparatives’ public reports, the report of the 2021 H1 Consumer Real-World Protection Test can be downloaded free of charge from the institute’s website. You can read the report here: https://www.av-comparatives.org/tests/real-world-protection-test-february-may-2021/

Cybersecurity, ransomware attacks can be stopped, we need to change the way we tackle it.

Re-thinking the approach to securing systems and data is required since traditional methods have not worked.

Excelitte protects your data from ransomware

The United States, Europe, Australia, and many other countries are focusing their attention on Cybersecurity dedicating billions & trillions of dollars which if spent accurately in the relevant areas is money well spent. If it is spent on previous methods, approaches and not on new/innovative ones, then it is frankly wasted.

Re-thinking the approach to securing systems with particular emphasis on addressing each layer that can be breached; network, server, middleware, transport, communication, data, hardware, etc. Provide first a logical, then a physical implementation to pre-empt & prevent the breach from occurring is required.

The existing methods have not worked, we need to completely rethink how we move forward to secure data, networks, and the several layers of a computer system. We need to use modern IT precepts, such as AI/Deep ML, Automation, Intelligent Analytics, Software Robotics, etc to pre-empt and impede such attacks.

Cyberwarfare is frankly a war of a different kind declared on the free world supported by hostile government institutions, as we are all aware. To win this war, a combination of both an offensive and defensive approach needs to be employed.

So far, we seem to be deploying defensive methods that are now obsolete.

The need to innovate, think up new approaches, change the way we capture, store, and use data for starters cannot be overemphasised.

Companies need to stop holding or storing data in Excel Spreadsheets, Word Documents if they don’t really need to because ransomware attacks on these file types are very easily carried out just like taking candy from a baby.

Data needs to be stored in database software applications which can be custom developed or off the shelf ready-to-use software packages like Excelitte (www.excelitte.com).

At TEMSCONSU we guarantee that your data stored in Excelitte can never be lost or stolen or held to ransom because the data can be recovered very easily without paying out millions.

We also have and are working on other innovative solutions that will reverse engineer current methods of carrying out these attacks, pre-empt and then offensively work very effectively to impede them.

Organisations need to employ/develop like for like skillset or even better or potential to be better to stand any chance at all, of repelling these attacks.

To win the Cyberwarfare or successfully repeal any such attacks will come down to innovation, a different way of thinking, and superior skillsets or at least similar.

There is obviously a pressing need to out-think and outsmart these cybercriminals.

New Research Finds Top Supply Chain Cyber Gap is Inadequately Protected Web Assets

Panorays Introduces Innovative Smart Questionnaires™

Panorays, a rapidly growing provider of third-party security risk management, today announced new research about the most common third-party cyber gaps and released a new automated, dynamic vendor security questionnaire functionality that helps resolve cyber gap issues in supply chains.

Using data from Panorays’ external attack surface evaluations of tens of thousands of vendors from various industries, researchers determined the top five cybersecurity issues hidden in supply chains. They were:

  1. Significant web assets not protected by Web Application Firewalls (WAF) (48% of companies affected)
  2. Unpatched web server with severe vulnerabilities (40% of companies affected)
  3. Vulnerable default CMS configuration (34% of companies affected)
  4. Insufficient security team personnel (31% of companies affected)
  5. Supporting deprecated SSL protocols (25% of companies affected).

To help resolve supply chain cyber gaps, Panorays now offers new automated, easy-to-use Smart Questionnaires that are typically completed in as little as nine days rather than the industry average of nine weeks, allowing organizations to significantly reduce time spent on the vendor evaluation process. They complement Panorays’ external attack surface evaluations, thereby providing a complete and accurate view of supplier risk. Unlike manual security questionnaires, Smart Questionnaires include only the questions that are relevant for each supplier based on the business relationship context. Customers can easily track the progress of hundreds of third parties at once, and can also immediately identify if there are any policy gaps that need to be addressed.

Panorays’ Smart Questionnaires also offer:

  • An overview page, providing visibility into the risk score of each category in the supplier’s questionnaire response.
  • Quick navigation of questionnaire responses using filters and color-coding of questions by risk level.
  • Unparalleled SIG support, including the ability to auto-complete the Smart Questionnaire by uploading a past SIG.
  • The ability to customize due dates and question weighting according to preference, and to check adherence to relevant regulatory requirements such as GDPR and NYDFS.
  • Multi-language translation, allowing companies to send questionnaires in suppliers’ native languages, and then view responses in their own language.
  • In-platform engagement, including the ability to comment on specific questions for more clarification.

“Smart Questionnaires have completely revolutionized our third-party risk management process,” said Jennifer Habshush, Information Security Specialist at AppsFlyer, a Panorays customer that works with hundreds of vendors. “We used to assess vendors using spreadsheets, but as our company grew, we understood that we needed an automated system to accelerate the process. With Panorays, the process is streamlined, we save lots of time and effort, and we can easily scale to add more vendors to the system.”

“This past year, we’ve seen that more and more, organizations from every industry are realizing that comprehensive third-party security risk management is essential. Our latest research provides a glimpse of some of the most common vendor vulnerabilities that organizations need to be aware of and know how to address,” said Matan Or-El, Panorays Co-Founder and CEO. “We also created the Smart Questionnaire to help tackle the problem of third-party security. The Smart Questionnaires automate and change the way organizations communicate with vendors, resulting in a safer, quicker onboarding process. When combined with Panorays’ vendor cyber posture assessment and business context, the platform provides companies with a complete view of third-party cyber risk.”

Review your insurance coverage before severe weather arrives

Jefferson City, Mo – Now is the best time to take action to prepare for Missouri’s severe weather season. The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance wants consumers to know there are essential steps they can take now to ensure they have peace of mind to weather future storms.

“We want all Missourians to be fully prepared for severe weather,” said Chlora Lindley-Myers, Director of the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance. “Reviewing your insurance policy before you receive damage from storms or flooding is crucial for recovery. We want people to be prepared and knowledgeable so they aren’t surprised during the claims process following a severe weather event.”

Although consumers may already have a homeowners or renters insurance policy, they should be sure they know exactly what it covers. If consumers don’t own a policy, they should consider meeting with an insurance agent as soon as possible in order to protect themselves from a possible devastating loss.

Steps to Preparing for Severe Weather Season:

  • Homeowners insurance policies should be reviewed each year to ensure coverage is adequate. It’s easy to forget about important household purchases or home improvements. The current level of coverage may not be enough to replace what a consumer owns.
  • Renters should consider purchasing or reviewing their renters insurance to avoid issues.
  • Review your roof coverage. Insurance policies and levels of coverage vary greatly. One common concern in Missouri are roof repairs as a result of storm damage. Some insurance policies may cover full replacement—while other policies may depreciate coverage based on the age of the roof. DCI provides a roof insurance guide to assist consumers in reviewing their policies based on available options.
  • A standard homeowners policy does not cover flood damage. Consumers may want to consider reviewing the National Flood Insurance Program, especially if living  in an area with frequent floodwaters. It’s important to be proactive if considering flood insurance as there is often a 30-day waiting period from the date of purchase for these policies to go into effect.
  • Do a home inventory and document your personal belongings. A simple step that will help assist consumers file a severe weather claim is documenting their personal property. DCI’s home inventory checklist guide makes it easy to record these household items.
  • Contact DCI with problems or complaints. DCI licenses agents and insurers, so we can help resolve many disputes consumers may experience with their claims. Consumers may call DCI’s Insurance Consumer Hotline at 800-726-7390 or they may file a complaint online.

The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance provides more severe weather resources and tips for consumers on their website.
