Comprehensive Center for the Female Athlete in Morris County NJ

Today on National Women’s Physician Day, The Pediatric Orthopedic Center (TPOC) has relaunched their Center for the Female Athlete to extend beyond orthopedics. Their dedicated team, comprised of 50% female orthopedic surgeons, is committed to providing comprehensive care for the specialized needs and injuries of young female athletes. Having built trusted relationships with some of the best providers in the area, the Center for the Female Athlete now offers its patients a list of recommended specialists including but not limited to psychologists, nutritionists, adolescent medicine specialists, and endocrinologists, to ensure your daughters receive the best possible care.

Comprised of four female pediatric orthopedic surgeons, Samara Friedman, MD, FAAOS; Anna Katsman, MD; Sarah Stelma, MD; and Alexandra D’Agostini, MD; as well as a nationally-certified orthopedic physician assistant, Jaime Morley, MS, PA-C, the Center of Excellence for the Female Athlete focuses on the unique medical conditions and injuries due to trauma or overuse of young female patients. While the national average for female orthopedic surgeons is only 6%, The Pediatric Orthopedic Center offers female athlete the choice between 4 female and 4 male orthopedic surgeons, in addition to a pediatric foot and ankle specialist, and orthopedic physician assistant.

According to Dr. Samara Friedman, the leading physician at the Center of Excellence for the Female Athlete, “Our keen focus is on the specialized needs and injuries of female athletes, including their unique physical and medical conditions, as well as psychological pressures. The Center of Excellence for the Female Athlete offers a safe space for female athletes to discuss their injuries, concerns and needs with highly-credentialled, compassionate providers. As athletes, sports team coaches, and physicians that have experience working with professional sports teams as well, we bring deep expertise to this specialized area of practice.”

Girls’ participation in high school sports has grown from less than 300,000 in the early 1970s to almost 3.5 million during the 2018-19 school year. In fact, female adolescents now make up almost 43% of high school athletes, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations. Due to their unique anatomical differences, female athletes are at an increased risk of sustaining ACL tears and overuse injuries compared to their male counterparts, for example, and are especially susceptible to injury during periods of rapid growth.

Tennessee Titans Spring Into Action In 2022 On Hellas’ Matrix Helix Turf At Indoor Practice Facility

Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park

Hellas Construction and the Tennessee Titans recently partnered on indoor field renovations to the team’s Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park facility in Nashville, Tenn. Having completed work for 10 NFL teams, Hellas construction was a natural choice for the job.

The Titans have contracted Hellas Construction to remove the existing turf in the team’s indoor practice area that features a 90 yard football field with end zones. Hellas crews installed a new synthetic turf system with Cushdrain® shock pad, Matrix Helix®, and Geo Coolfill® infill.

Cushdrain is an elastic layer paved in place over a laser-graded drainstone foundation that provides planarity and holds its form through multiple life cycles. The Cushdrain® shock pad helps protect athletes from injuries caused by hard impacts with the surface.

Geo Coolfill infill is a 100% organic material that yields up to 40⁰ reduction in field surface temperature, optimal energy restitution and superior foot control.

Matrix Helix has shape memory technology which curls each fiber to secure the infill to prevent migration and ‘splash-out’ for a uniform, aesthetically pleasing playing surface. Hellas RealFill infill provides proper fiber support, energy restitution, enhanced shock absorption and rapid drainage to prevent compaction under heavy-use for consistent G-Max over time.

Hellas Construction President and CEO Reed J. Seaton said, “Nothing is more important to Hellas than providing a quality product and safe playing surface for athletes. The Tennessee Titans needed renovations to their indoor facility and Hellas crews completed the renovation in less than 4 weeks”.

Adam Nuse, Titans VP Business Operations added, “It’s always a pleasure working with Hellas. Their professionalism and attention to detail are unmatched in the industry and exactly what our athletes need so they continue to perform at the highest level.”

Hellas Construction, headquartered in Austin, Texas, is America’s largest sports contractor specializing in the construction and installation of sports surfaces. The firm owns and operates its own heavy construction equipment staffed by specially trained and certified employee crews. Controlling the supply chain and workforce means that Hellas can complete any turf, track, or court project – start to finish- without delay. Stanford University Football Practice Field Now Features Shaw Sports Turf Synthetic Surface

This spring, the football team’s practice field, officially Dan Elliott practice field, received a new synthetic turf surface featuring Shaw Sports Turf’s Legion 2.0 turf system.

Located in the San Francisco Bay area, Stanford University is one of the world’s leading research institutes. The private university enrolls over 16,000 students on its 8,180-acre campus. The school boasts a robust academic community as well as an impressive offering of sports. The school’s athletic facilities are also among some of the most state-of-the-art collegiate sports facilities in the nation. This spring, the football team’s practice field, officially Dan Elliott practice field, received a new synthetic turf surface featuring Shaw Sports Turf’s Legion 2.0 turf system.

“The field was past it’s time, and needed to be replaced,” explains Blaise Resifo, Director of Sports Turf for Stanford University. The field’s existing turf was over 10 years old and showing signs of wear. The old turf needed to come out. When the search for a turf company began, the school knew that they wanted a durable, safe, and high-quality product.

“We did our research, gathered information, looked at other facilities featuring Shaw turf, and decided that Shaw would suit our needs best,” said Resifo. “The data on the infill product was particularly interesting.” The infill product used on this field is Shaw’s unique blend of crumb rubber and sand that reduces infill flyout.

Once the decision was made to go with Shaw Sports Turf, the team worked together to determine the best overall turf system for the school’s needs. The school installed 89,337 square feet of Legion 2.0 on the practice field. The Legion 2.0 synthetic turf system was chosen for its performance characteristics, infill flyout control, and overall durability and stability. Legion 2.0 is comprised of both Bolt monofilament and slit film fibers, with optimized face weight for performance and infill flyout control. It’s one of the most durable and popular products on the market. The Legion system provides better ball roll than natural grass, with the benefits of added durability and infill control.

The field also now features the new, updated Stanford logo and branding.

The new turf field was installed on April 18th, 2022, one week ahead of schedule, which was beneficial to the school and points to the success of the project. “The entire process ran very smoothly, quickly. The timeline was smooth, and we were constantly in contact with Shaw sifting through the details,” said Blaise. The school was able to hold athletic conditioning on the new field just days after installation.

“We’ve received very pristine reviews from students, staff, and the community,” said Blaise.

“I’m happy Shaw Sports Turf has been given the opportunity to be involved with Stanford University Athletics and its storied football program. They have shown a commitment to providing the absolute best facilities for their athletes, and this new turf system is no exception. This will be something the university can be proud of for years to come. GO Stanford!” said Shaw Sports Turf Territory Manager, Matt Cohen.

NBC Basketball Celebrates 50 Years of Camps with 2022 Season

NBC Basketball Camps, a partner of US Sports Camps, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this summer. One of the largest and most respected basketball programs in the world, NBC Basketball Camps combines sports instruction with life skills and leadership training to help campers ages 9-18 become resilient and well-rounded athletes.

Since its founding in 1971, NBC Basketball Camps has served over 400,000 campers through overnight, day and travel programs. Originally offered only in the Pacific Northwest, the camps are now available in six countries — including the U.S., the U.K., Austria, Canada, Italy and Thailand — and over 50 cities. The program emphasizes life-long values like mental toughness, leadership, gratitude and personal faith alongside core basketball skills like shooting, ball handling and defensive and offensive best practices.

“More than ever, kids need what NBC provides: an active and engaging athletic environment where campers learn, play and compete,” says NBC Camps President Shawn Stetson. “NBC coaches are masters at creating an atmosphere of fun, intensity and encouragement.”

The NBC Basketball Camps team looks forward to a promising season, especially as their overseas travel programs resume for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. After a 650-camper waitlist last year, the team anticipates another busy summer, with an estimated enrollment of 10,000 campers. The theme for the 2022 season will be Relentless Pursuit of Excellence.

“This summer promises to be a significant one,” says John Fazio, senior vice president of NBC Camps. “We are anticipating camps to be a full-go again, which athletes are definitely ready for, and we’re stepping into a new era without our founder, Fred Crowell, who passed away last August after a long battle with cancer. We feel so honored to carry on his 50-year legacy and vision of positively impacting athletes on and off the court through a life-changing camp experience.”

Registration for 2022 NBC Basketball Camps is open now. Players, coaches and parents interested in NBC Basketball Camps can visit our website for more information. https://www.nbccamps.com/

New Initiatives and Partners Propel LakePoint Sports to a Record-Setting 2021

Nearly one million guests experience the momentum at the premier travel and youth sports destination

LakePoint Sports, the premier travel and youth sports destination in the country, saw tremendous growth and momentum this year, making 2021 a record-setting year, despite the macro-economic challenges faced across the nation. Through the launch of new initiatives in 2021, focused on the guest experience and the organization’s influence in the industry, LakePoint was able to safely welcome nearly one million guests to its beautiful 1,300-acre campus, generating almost $100 million in economic impact for the state of Georgia, and ink deals with over 20 new corporate brands.

With a laser-point focus on the guest experience, LakePoint launched its Champions Weekend initiative, of which all six weekends were sold-out. Thanks to title sponsor support from Insurance Offices of America (IOA), RoofClaim.com, KT Tape, Chevrolet, and Publix, guests could experience everything from contests, giveaways, special appearances, and live music to food and beverage promotions and other onsite entertainment. These included radio remote broadcasts from 680 the Fan, the best sports talk radio show in the southeast.

“Our mission is to create life-long memories, one experience, one game, one guest at a time,” said David Pate, director of marketing at LakePoint Sports. “With the support of our title sponsors, we were able to create those memories and elevate the guest experience through all the different promotions and activities surrounding each Champions Weekend.”

LakePoint also launched RYZE Hoops at the beginning of 2021, designed to focus on the athlete’s experience by bringing together the southeast’s top travel basketball players. Over 8,600 athletes across 570 teams competed during RYZE Hoops events, seeing hundreds of scholarships awarded.

“The LakePoint Champions Center is our flagship venue because it allows us to bring in over 100 of the best travel basketball teams in the county for each event,” said Dan McDonald, director of basketball operations at RYZE Hoops. “The state-of-the-art live streaming capabilities also allow the elite players in our events to get noticed by college coaches even during the non-contact periods. We are excited about the growth opportunities with LakePoint in 2022.”

As the flagship venue for Prep Baseball Report (PBR), the LakePoint Baseball Village played host to nearly 200,000 of the nation’s top travel baseball players as they competed against top-tier competition throughout 2021. The PBR 14U-18U National Championships, the National Program Invitational, and the Future Games are the preeminent events in the country. The Future Games alone saw representation from over 300 colleges and dozens of pro scouts, resulting in hundreds of scholarships awarded.

“Our strong partnership with LakePoint Sports continued to grow in 2021 as we found new ways to elevate the elite travel baseball experience on the LakePoint campus, highlighted by our signature Future Games event,” said Sean Duncan, president of Prep Baseball Report. “We look forward to the opportunities 2022 holds and how we will continue to grow together.”

With the launch of new content focused on the offline experience, such as post-game interviews, play-by-play streams, and expert analysis, LakePoint digital media has experienced exponential growth since 2019. This includes a record-high 35,000 hours of gameplay streamed, through LakePoint Live, powered by PlaySight, and a 1,000 percent increase in impressions, resulting in 79 million total over a two-year span. In addition, engagements increased to three million — a 935 percent increase since 2019 — while video views saw a 5,300 percent increase with 9.4 recorded.

LakePoint showed its influence in the industry by hosting the inaugural National Youth Sports Summit in the 170,000-square-foot Champions Center, located in the heart of campus. The invite-only Summit brought together industry leaders who gave their insights into the $25 billion youth sports industry, with growth expected to reach over $60 billion by 2026 (WinterGreen Research, 2021). Panelists focused on Travel Baseball, Travel Basketball, Name, Image and Likeness, Sports Technology, Digital Media, as well as Data and Insights.

In addition, LakePoint added over 20 new corporate partners this year, growing its roster to over 50 local, regional, national and global brand sponsors as it launched customized branded content, events, promotions, product launches, and more.

“We are always looking for partners to add value to the guest experience here at LakePoint Sports,” said Greg Barckhoff, executive vice president of marketing and partnerships. “So, we are excited to add these new brands that are helping to elevate the experience for our athletes, families, and coaches who compete on campus.”

In spite of the challenges LakePoint team members experienced amidst the pandemic and labor shortages, their hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. Sports Business Journal recognized LakePoint as a 2021 Sports Facility of the Year Finalist alongside other notable facilities such as AT&T Stadium, Dickies Arena, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and Globe Life Field. In addition, LakePoint earned a spot on The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s 2021 Top Workplace list. The organization was also appointed to the Georgia Tourism Foundation by Georgia Gov. Brian P. Kemp.

The momentum and growth will continue into 2022 with the strong partnership and growth of Prep Baseball Report, expansion of RYZE Hoops, new programs, new technology relationships, branded promotions, partnerships, and more.

“We are grateful for the significant progress that was made at LakePoint in 2021,” stated President and CEO Mark M. O’Brien. “Our full-time and hourly team members, sponsors, and partners make it all possible, and we couldn’t be more excited for the future.”

Monster Energy’s Phil Davis Defeats Yoel Romero at Bellator 266 in San Jose

Monster Energy congratulates Phil Davis on defeating Yoel Romero in the headline fight at Bellator 266 inside SAP Center in San Jose, California, on Saturday night.

Back in the winner’s circle! Monster Energy congratulates Phil Davis on defeating Yoel Romero in the headline fight at Bellator 266 inside SAP Center in San Jose, California, on Saturday night. In the Main Event fight, the 36-year-old Light Heavyweight fighter from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, went the distance to earn the victory via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-26), spoiling Romero’s high-profile debut in the Bellator promotion.

Bellator 266 – Davis vs. Romero was contested in front of a high-energy crowd at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The Main Card was broadcast on Showtime and Prelims presented by Monster Energy streamed live on YouTube.

The headline fight marked the anticipated Bellator MMA debut of Cuban professional mixed martial artist Romero (13-6 MMA). The 44-year-old is a former Olympic wrestler and three-time title challenger in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) with a penchant for victories by knockout or technical knockout via punches.

Monster Energy’s Davis (23-6 MMA) stepped into the Octagon looking for a win after his loss to current division champion Vadim Nemkov in the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Championship quarterfinals in April 2021. To his favor, Davis had never lost a fight at SAP Center in San Jose and remained undefeated in four fights at the venue, looking to extend the record against Romero.

The fight started with a tense first round in which both opponents tried to find openings for strikes and leg kicks. Romero moved in a slow, arhythmic fashion but always ready to explode into his signature high-powered strikes and combos, while Davis kept clear and landed calculated punches.

In Round 2, Davis had to absorb a few heavy shots from Romero but succeeded in changing the dynamic halfway through the round: With Romero swinging wildly, Davis upped the tempo and landed a heavy punch to the head that visibly stunned his opponent. Using the momentum, he secured the first (massive) takedown of the bout right before the end of the round.

In the third and final round, Davis put the ‘mixed’ in mixed martial arts and doubled down on his wrestling. Repeatedly taking the fight to the ground, he dismantled the Cuban Olympic silver medalist with precise takedowns – a total of five throughout the fight – and followed up with punishing ground-and-pound. When all was said and done, Davis’ ground control and significant strikes earned the victory via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-26).

“You got to use the wrestling. God bless wrestling, best sport in the world!” said Davis upon winning the headline fight at Bellator 266. Speaking on his opponent, Davis said: “Man, he’s a monster. I felt that power more times than I wished I had tonight.”

Davis successfully spoiled Romero’s debut in the Bellator franchise, perhaps to the disappointment of some fans at SAP Center who had favored the Cuban. “Not too often do I hear everybody cheering for the other guy. It was good to be the bad guy for a while,” said Davis after the fight.

Saturday night’s victory brings Davis back into the winner’s circle with a Bellator MMA record of 10 wins, 3 losses. Davis, who trains with Alliance MMA, became the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Champion in 2016 and held the title until 2017. Stay tuned for Mr. Wonderful’s next fight!
